MY GYARU LIFESTYLE

At this point, you might be asking yourself: How does this woman incorporate gyaru into her lifestyle?! And you might be thinking it’s only makeup or snapping selfies in the morning before I take off for school and work. While those are part of the gyaru life (for me), that isn’t entirely true! In reality, my gyaru lifestyle really boils down to mindset, passion, who I am as a person, and my sense of community!

Most people who are familiar with gyaru know about the mindset by now. It’s about being confident in yourself, being unafraid to express yourself fully, having a fun and positive outlook on life… blah blah blah. You get the gist of it! Mindset isn’t exactly something I consciously have incorporated into my life. It’s moreso something that has come pretty naturally to me. In real life, I already have a pretty chipper, chatty-cathy sort of personality! However, wearing my galmake and clothes have only made me feel more confident in expressing myself! My natural personality combined with this newfound confidence really merged to create a strong sense of the gal mindset!

How do I apply this mindset to my life, though? Being a gal isn’t only about having the mindset, but also applying it! I have expressed my gal mindset through my passions! These passions entail anything from my DIY projects to my two-hour daily morning routine. I love to express my passion for gyaru through my artwork as well as the way I present myself in public. Without my love for gyaru, I really do not think I would have had the energy or motivation to become serious about makeup or my little crafts.

Last but not least, my involvement in the gyaru fashion and subculture has led me to find my community and meet new, amazing people! While I haven’t attended any gal meets in person (YET), I’ve helped create a Discord group for gals in my area! At the time of writing this, we plan on holding an event for Pride Month so I’m super duper excited for that! We also plan on starting our very own galsa (gal circle)!!

With all of that being said, I’m so very happy that I’ve been able to find a subculture and community that resonate with me so deeply! Never in my life have I had a better outlet for community or self expression.
